Arizona Trip

9th & 10th Grade Trip - Fort Defiance, AZ
July 15-24, 2016

The Navajo Nation extends into four states: Arizona, New Mexico, Utah and a little bit of
Colorado. The natural beauty of this area is unparalleled. There are currently almost 300,000
Navajo throughout the US - 131,000 living in Arizona. The government took control of their
land in 1846 and since then they have had over 100 years of struggle. Although the Navajo
people are strong and proud, their economy has struggled, leaving many tribal members without
jobs and living in poverty.

This year our students will be partnering with an organization called Youthworks. Youthworks (YW) exists to connect teenagers to God, each other and communities through life-changing Christ-centered mission trips. YW is excited to celebrate being on the Navajo Nation since 2001. High school students have the opportunity to explore the tradition and heritage of the Navajo people on Arizona’s Navajo Reservation. Although the Navajo people are strong and proud, their economy has struggled, leaving many tribal members without jobs and living in poverty. Our group will serve many of these community members through working on homes and ministering to children and elderly residents on the reservation.

During one half of the week, they'll lead Bible lessons, games, reading time or crafts with community children. During the other half of the week you will serve through simple work projects such as; yard work, painting, or cleaning.
